Ralph Klein Park and Environmental Education Centre Wins Sustainability Award

The Ralph Klein Park and Environmental Education Centre (EEC) won an award for sustainability at the 2011 Alberta Chapter American Concrete Institute Awards of Excellence. In front of a sold out crowd, RJC’s John Charrett and Melissa Kindratsky accepted the award along with other members of the design team.

The mission of the Ralph Klein Park and the EEC is to promote ecological literacy and action. Design principles invoked include integration of buildings and landscape forms, and the showcasing of leading edge green building technologies. Given the project’s intense focus on sustainability, it is no surprise that the concrete construction highly demonstrates sustainable green construction techniques. The concrete was locally sourced, used HVSCM in the concrete mixes, and surplus concrete was returned to the plant for recycling.
