Tibor Kokai

Dr. Tibor Kokai co-authored the Concrete Design Handbook.

Principal

Tibor brings 26 years of experience and technical expertise to RJC's Toronto Structural Team. As a Senior Associate with Halsall Associates and Partner with Halcrow Yolles, Tibor directed technically challenging projects and developed design and production standards. His experience in residential, commercial and institutional projects spans Canada and abroad. 

Tibor holds a Master's degree in Structural Engineering and a Dr. Techn. from the Technical University of Budapest. He co-authored the Concrete Design Handbook and is a member of the CSA A23.3 and Standing Committee on Earthquake Design. 

Tibor's technical skill, creativity, and strong commitment to clients make him a natural fit at RJC.

Scott Wallace

BASc, P.Eng.
Managing Principal

Scott heads RJC Toronto's Structural Engineering and Parking Facility Design teams. He is known for finding innovative solutions to technical challenges and for his sensitivity to projects with community concerns and special client needs.

He has been the Project Engineer for many of Toronto's unique and architecturally demanding projects. Scott graduated from the University of Waterloo in 1983. He was employed in structural design, research and development and construction while in the university’s co-operative program. Scott joined RJC in 1985 as a Design Engineer and was made a Principal in 1991.

Philip Sarvinis

Philip lectures on structure deterioration at events and institutions globally.

Managing Principal
As Managing Principal of the Building Science and Restoration practice areas in RJC’s Toronto office, Philip is responsible for managing, developing and growing the practice while ensuring that our clients’ needs are met. He enjoys the hands-on management of both evaluation and rehabilitation projects and prides himself on his ability to ensure the work is completed both on time and on budget. 

He has devoted his career to the assessment, rehabilitation and protection of aging buildings and structures. Philip is licensed to practice in Ontario, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Nova Scotia.

As an expert on the effects the environment and general use has on buildings and in particular the deterioration of buildings and structures, he has published papers on the subject and lectures at industry events and educational institutions around the world. Philip's knowledge of buildings and structural deterioration has enabled him to act as an expert witness in cases related to his field of expertise.

Philip graduated with honours from the University of Toronto and joined RJC in 1991. Since then, Philip has taken an active role in the building renewal industry.

Darren Wint

Darren enjoys collaborating with clients to develop innovative solutions to meet design and construction challenges.

He has managed and designed a number of award-winning projects, and is currently overseeing RJC’s work as prime consultant on several feasibility studies and parking projects under construction including design-build projects with GO Transit in and around the Greater Toronto Area.

Andrew Bayne

Andrew is RJC's Building Information Modeling (BIM) Committee Chair

Associate

Andrew's dedication to project innovation and construction practicality as a Project Engineer has enabled him to complete many successful residential condominium, church, school, long-term care and commercial projects.

He contributes to both new construction and complex renovation projects.

Andrew joined RJC in 2001 following graduation from the University of Western Ontario with concurrent degrees in Civil Engineering and Computer Science. As Chair of our BIM Committee, he has been a driving force in moving RJC rapidly into BIM. He was made an RJC Associate in 2010.

Chester Yung

Chester has worked on high-rise projects in Hong Kong, China and Canada.

Chester has extensive experience in the structural design, construction review, contract administration and management of multi-disciplinary projects locally and internationally.

His strong background in reinforced concrete and structural steel enables him to find innovative solutions to technical challenges to meet RJC clients’ demands. 

Chester graduated from the University of Alberta in 1986. He was employed as a Design Engineer with Carruthers & Wallace Consulting Engineers prior to joining RJC in 1988. In 1998, Chester joined Ove Arup and Partners in Hong Kong as a Project Manager working on major multi-disciplinary and high-rise projects in Hong Kong and China. Chester re-joined RJC in 2005.

Ralf Altenkirch

Ralf works on variety of projects including recreational facilities, theatres, refurbishment, long-term care, residential and industrial projects.

Ralf graduated in 1999 from the University of Manchester UK’s Structural Engineering with the Architecture Integrated European Program. He received the 1999 Ove Arup Award for academic student of the year and studied Structural Engineering and History of Architecture in Valencia, Spain, as part of his degree. After graduation, Ralf joined Buro Happold Consulting Engineers in Manchester and worked with them until he joined RJC in 2001. He was made an Associate in 2010.

Ron Mazza

BASc, ME, P.Eng., LEED AP
Principal

Ron has over 35 years’ experience in the structural design of a wide variety of building types across Canada and takes a special interest in the design of sustainable buildings. He enjoys collaborating with a design team to develop creative structural solutions that work for a building in its entirety.

Ron's recent projects include the Jean Canfield Government of Canada Building in Charlottetown PEI, Bayne Centre for Information Technologies at the University of Toronto, the Bridgepoint Hospital and Waterloo Consolidated Courthouse DBFM submissions.

After graduating from the University of Toronto, where he was awarded a National Research Council Scholarship, Ron earned a Master of Engineering degree from the University of British Columbia specializing in structures.

He joined RJC’s Toronto office in 1975 and was made Principal in 1981. After working in the Calgary office for a three-year period he returned to Toronto in 1983 as a branch manager. Ron became Vice-President in 1993 and was elected Chairman of the Board of RJC in 2005.

Michael Moffatt

Michael's latest project is targeting LEED Platinum certification.

Mike is highly sought after for his expertise on projects that require resolution to environmental and sustainability issues. He has experience working with LEED® awarded projects and is a member of the Canadian Green Building Council Education Committee.

Mike graduated in 1994 from the University of Toronto and registered as a Professional Engineer in Ontario in 1997. He was employed as a Design Engineer with a Toronto-based consulting firm before joining RJC in 1998. Here he was made a Project Engineer in 1999, an Associate in 2002 and a Principal of the firm in 2007.

Ken Fong

Ken is respected for his no-nonsense approach to Structural Design.

Principal

Ken leads a Structural Engineering Design Team at RJC's Toronto office, specializing in time-sensitive retail, residential, commercial and institutional projects. His large stable of dedicated clients, developed over many years, trusts Ken to produce no-nonsense structural solutions to difficult design challenges on time and on budget.

He is also a Project Engineer responsible for many of the company’s complex restoration projects and educational projects.

Ken joined RJC in 1979 after receiving his Diploma from Ryerson Polytechnic University. He was made an Associate in 1996 and a Principal in 2001.
