Integrated Parking Design | Centennial Parkade, Calgary, AB

Centennial Parkade, Calgary, AB

Our engineers' design for this parking structure in a high-profile, historic location, provides ease of parking and security without compromising its architectural integrity.

Designed with historical reference to the warehouses that had occupied the neighbourhood in the early 1900s, Calgary's Centennial Parkade is located in a highly trafficked area, filled with an eclectic mix of restaurants, pubs, retro movie houses and retail shops. Its owners, the Calgary Parking Authority, asked RJC to provide them with high quality parking for nearby office tenants, and security for the Parkade's patrons, especially during off-hours. In meeting the Parking Authority's needs our engineers had to be especially mindful of respecting the structure's architecturally sensitive design and high-profile location, while staying within specific budgetary limitations.

RJC's engineers worked closely with the architectural team to ensure that the building's architectural integrity was not compromised. The three elements of parking configuration, architecture, and structural design were well integrated, with the high-visibility components of the garage receiving architectural emphasis. The Parkade's patrons were ensured security through the building's clear span structure, excellent lighting, glass-enclosed stairs and elevators, CCTV cameras and emergency help buttons.
