More Parking, More Clinics, Less Footprint
Rockyview General Hospital, Calgary, AB
This new precast parkade was constructed into the hillside in front of the hospital. The first floor is level with the roadway at the bottom of the hill and the fourth floor is level with the hospital main floor Emergency and Admitting areas. It is also the foundation for a new clinics addition on top of the parkade.
Covered in a facade of coloured glass and aluminum, the parkade looks more like an office building more than a parkade. This look ties in seamlessly with the clinics addition.
The parkade is a central feature of the hospital. RJCs design alleviates parking issues, welcomes patrons and staff, and enabled Alberta Health Services to develop additional clinic space on the hospital campus without building on precious land reserves.
The parkade received the prestigious Best Parking Structure (less than 1,000 vehicles) design award from the Precast Concrete Institute.
