Daryl Prefontaine

Daryl received his Bachelor of Science (Civil) degree in 1985, and a Master's of Engineering (Structural) in 1995 from the University of Alberta. He joined RJC in 1989 after four years of experience in the timber roof and floor truss industry. He became an Associate of the firm in 2003, and a Principal in 2013.  
Daryl is a Group Leader in RJC Edmonton’s Building Science and Restoration team. As part of this role he trains and mentors a group of engineers and technologists through the project process including preparation of tender and contract documents, contract administration, project management, and field supervision.

Specializing in the assessment, repair and rehabilitation of concrete structures, Daryl has a wide range of experience in the restoration and protection of existing building structures and envelopes including parking garages and industrial facilities. His design experience for new construction includes commercial, residential, high-rise, and parking structures.  Several of Daryl's projects have won awards: concrete repair work at EPCOR Gold Bar Wastewater Treatment Plant and the Commonwealth Stadium Rehabilitation program both won Awards of Excellence in Sustainability from the International Concrete Repair Institute, and the Agrium Prill Tower Restoration won an Award of Excellence in Concrete Restoration from the American Concrete Institute.
Daryl currently serves on the International Concrete Repair Institute (ICRI) Committee 150, which provides commentary notes for ACI 562 “Code Requirements for Evaluation, Repair, and Rehabilitation of Concrete Buildings”.
