Michael Blackman

BASc, P.Eng., LEED® AP, FEC | Regional Manager; Principal
A strong commitment to ethical conduct, mentorship and meeting deadlines makes Michael a valuable asset for RJC’s leadership team. He communicates well with clients, colleagues and contractors alike. Michael is especially known in the public sector and for his diverse experience on building projects ranging from recreational facilities, schools, retail facilities and airports through to commercial and residential mid- to high-rise facilities. He strives to understand the big picture goals of his clients while leveraging the expertise and experience of a design team. For these reasons, Michael is a go-to resource for prime consulting on multi-disciplinary projects. He is also a key member of RJC’s Sustainable Design Liaison Group, and has served on multiple external committees and task forces on sustainability.
Michael approaches project management with a keen interest in the personal relationships and the experience of the team.  A selection of his projects include: evaluation and restoration of existing public facilities; design coordination of public works facilities in Kamloops, BC; evaluation of a lagoon liner system in Kelowna, BC; plaza and pool restorations in Whistler, BC; coordination of the design team for a large elevator modernization project at two hospitals in Vancouver, BC; and the development and implementation of long-range capital plans for clients such as Ivanhoe Cambridge, Cadillac Fairview, Triovest and Morguard Investments.
Michael was honoured by APEGBC as their Top Young Professional in 2008.  In 2009 he was nominated for Engineers Canada's Young Engineer Achievement Award and in 2011 he was named a Fellow of Engineers Canada.
