Simon is able to turn architectural vision into reality. Two of his recent projects, Glacier Skywalk and Studio Bell (formerly called National Music Centre) have won World Architecture Awards. Simon was the Design Lead and Structural Engineer for Glacier Skywalk, which has also won the Governor General’s Award for Architecture and the Canadian Consulting Engineering Award of Excellence, the highest recognition for excellence in consulting engineering in Canada.
Simon is a voting member of the American Concrete Institute (ACI International) Committee 421: Design of Reinforced Concrete Slabs” and is also a voting member of the Canadian Standards Association Welding Requirements Committee S367: Air-, cable-, and frame-supported membrane structures. He is also routinely engaged to present his work at national and international conferences.
Simon graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Science in 1993. In 2003, he completed his PhD in Structural Engineering at the University of Calgary. Simon joined RJC in 1998, having worked two previous years with another firm. He is a Principal in RJC’s Calgary office and is currently RJC’s technical specialist for reinforced concrete design.
