People_EDM_Nick-Trovato_web
Nick graduated in 1979 from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and began his career as a structural design engineer.  He also continued his education and obtained his Master’s degree in 1984 from the University of Alberta. Nick was the first recipient of APEGA’s Early Accomplishment Award in recognition of exceptional work-related achievement, service to the profession, and enhancement of the quality of life during the early years of a professional career.

In the early 1980s Nick became involved with the evaluation and restoration of buildings and structures. His structural design background and inquisitive nature helped Nick to develop a strong understanding of how buildings perform and where problems can occur. He extended this work to new building envelopes.

As Managing Principal of RJC Edmonton’s Building Science and Restoration team, Nick has a solid background in building science both in the design of new buildings and in the evaluation and restoration of existing.  To each project, Nick brings a strong understanding of the performance of the building structure and the building exterior for the many types of cladding systems used in our northern environment. His attention to detail and eye for constructability is a great asset to any project.

Nick has presented papers and presentations on building science and structural restoration to local and international groups such as the International Conference on Building Envelope Systems and Technologies (ICBEST), the Conference on Concrete Under Severe Conditions (CONSEC),  ACI, BOMA, and CCI.

Nick is a qualified expert witness in the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta and has also represented clients in arbitrations and mediations relating to both building science and structural issues.
