The 69th Street SW pedestrian bridge crosses the inbound and outbound West LRT tracks that are located in a deep trench. The bridge links 17th Avenue SW and the LRT parking facility to the 69th Street SW Station Head. Barrier-free access is provided via the bridge and the station elevator to the LRT platform. The exposed high performance concrete beam and slab superstructure is cross sloped for drainage and designed to support a fire truck in the event that emergency response is required. The deck edge barriers are combined concrete barriers and 2.1m high security railings, incorporating architectural treatment. Expansion joints at the concrete abutment seats isolate each end of the bridge from the adjacent at-grade plazas. The abutment seats are supported on the cast-in-place concrete trench walls and the intermediate support is provided by the concrete haunches extending up from the station head.
