The roof of UBC’s Asian Centre was originally built with a donated structural steel framework from the roof of Sanyo Pavilion at the 1970 World Exposition in Osaka. Having done a study for the University of British Columbia (UBC) to investigate the leaks in the roof that had been an issue almost from the time of the original construction in the 1970’s, RJC took on a major re-roofing project for the building.

RJC engaged Chernoff Thompson Architects as an architectural consultant and worked with Coastpro Contracting Ltd. to create narrow profile sheet metal tile cladding to replicate the original roof form and appearance. A new waterproofing membrane was added, significantly increasing the insulation to meet the University’s design guidelines.
