The Nelson Mandela Park Public School is a historic 4-storey building of wood and masonry brick construction, originally constructed in 1916. RJC provided the structural engineering services for the additions and renovations in order to accommodate 660 pupil places including a full day kindergarten, City of Toronto Child Care Centre and new library. The project was designed to achieve LEED Silver certification. The challenge in the renovation was to transform the school into a modern, welcoming learning environment with minimal and judicious structural modifications without altering the historic nature of the building.
