The Thunder Bay Consolidated Courthouse was delivered using an Alternative Financing and Procurement model. The $247.7 million LEED Silver facility is a seven-storey building with two levels of podium structure and one level of basement. The building accommodates 15 courtrooms and four conference/settlement rooms, in addition to the Crown prosecutors’ offices, Victim/Witness Assistance Program and Court Administrative office. The facility is approximately 155,000 sq. ft. with provisions to for future two floors expansion over the podium area. In addition to the glaze atrium that brings natural light deep into the building, the overall design also captures maximum daylight into the court rooms. Measures such as Site Security, Blast-Resistance and Progressive Collapse design have been incorporated in the facility.  It is comprised of a composite steel framing system and cast in place concrete core walls. The facility is designed to resist blast loads and protect against progressive collapse.
