Dr. Mohammad Fakoor is a Senior Building Performance Engineer with RJC who is a dedicated leader in RJC’s Building Energy Modelling practice. He is presenting ‘Compliance with NECB 2017: Towards Net-Zero Energy Ready Buildings.

Since 1956, the Alberta Association of Architects (AAA) has hosted a conference that brings speakers from around the globe to share ideas, innovation and ingenuity. Usually taking place in the remote mountain town of Banff, AB, Banff Session 2021, like many events this year, will be virtual.

The virtual event will start on April 23 with a day of live Keynote presentations. Following the Keynote kickoff, attendees will have until May 25 to complete viewing the on-demand PD sessions that they registered for.

Dr. Mohammad Fakoor is a Senior Building Performance Engineer with RJC who is a dedicated leader in RJC’s Building Energy Modelling practice. He is presenting ‘Compliance with NECB 2017: Towards Net-Zero Energy Ready Buildings. His session discusses how, as part of the Paris Agreement, Canada has committed to reducing greenhouse gases and energy consumption. He will explore what role architecture has in achieving these goals.

He will talk about how provinces are adopting energy codes and standards to advance the energy performance of buildings towards the ambitious 2030 energy efficiency goals (i.e.net-zero energy ready buildings.) Alberta, for example, has already adopted the National Energy Code of Canada for Buildings (NECB) 2017. Key differences between NECB 2017 and 2011 will be explored, showcasing the required energy conservation measures for different archetypes that tie in mechanical/structural/building envelope strategies to comply with NECB 2017.

Mohammad is sought nationally for his deep knowledge of building performance, specifically for designing high performance buildings aligned with contemporary energy standards. A published author and lecturer, he actively contributes to his field through practice and research with his work extensively cited in pertinent literature.
