The International Conference on Building Envelope Systems and Technologies (ICBEST) of 2014 – Building for a Changing World – brought together architects, engineers, practitioners and researchers interested in promoting new knowledge and their application of building envelope systems and technologies.  Among the topics of interest, Nick Trovato, Managing Principal with RJC’s Edmonton office, presented his paper on "Reducing Building Energy Consumption – A Building Retrofit Case Study".

The case study highlights a major retrofit of an existing 1960’s office building.  This building had a very poorly performing building envelope. This paper will discuss the improvements made to the building envelope and the mechanical system and how the integration of the two systems has significantly improved overall occupant comfort and reduced energy consumption.
