Start Date: Immediately

Salary Range: 110,000 – 140,000 (dependent on experience)

 

Candidate Profile

Reporting to the Senior Finance Leader, the Operational Controller is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the financial accounting, reporting, and internal controls to support the business in achieving its strategic targets.  Partnering with Operations to support the profitability and growth of the business, providing insightful financial information and recommendations.  A champion leading the organizations understanding and adherence to revenue recognition accounting concepts, controls, and procedures to ensure the integrity and accuracy of the firm’s financial results.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and direction to develop the team using a supportive and collaborative approach: assign accountabilities; set objectives; establish priorities, and monitor and evaluate results.
  • Manage the month end close process including the oversight of general ledger accounts, reporting, and investigating variance to budget, and managing internal controls.
  • Responsible for the project accounting and reporting activities for a large number of professional service contracts using percentage-of-completion revenue recognition method.
  • Detailed analysis of revenue, work in progress, deferred revenue, and accounts receivable transactions.
  • Maintain and enhance complex excel financial models to manage a large quantity of data.
  • Efficiently extract and consolidate information from various ERP and Operating systems to provide management information for decision making.
  • Investigate variances and discrepancies in data and present information and recommendations for resolving differences.
  • Provide advice and guidance on business activities to optimize financial performance and business opportunities.
  • Support and collaborate with other Finance department members including project accounting, corporate accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, etc.
  • Implement tools and strategies to translate raw data into valuable business insights by taking a hands-on lead position of developing, implementing, enhancing, and maintaining a comprehensive reporting system.

 

Experience, Skills & Attributes

Experience:
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a senior management role with both external audit and in-house financial management experience
  • Familiarity with the consulting engineering and architectural industry will be an asset.
  • Exceptional technical, analytical and systems skills; advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, financial modeling, and reporting
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • Must hold one of the following designations in good standing: CPA or CPA (CA, CGA or CMA legacy designations)
