This facility’s post-tensioned concrete structure had a number of inherent weaknesses and flaws that promoted structurally debilitating water penetration into the protective sheathings of the high strength steel wire strands that are embedded on the concrete floor and roof slabs.

This facility’s post-tensioned concrete structure had a number of inherent weaknesses and flaws that promoted structurally debilitating water penetration into the protective sheathings of the high strength steel wire strands that are embedded on the concrete floor and roof slabs.

Structural steel subframing within the underground parking garage allowed for a complete decommissioning of the heavily deteriorated ground floor podium deck post tensioning system, while targeted strand replacement in the floor and roof slabs for the building above allowed the owner to capitalize on a functional and effective structural system.

Improvements to the building’s moisture performance was accomplished by way of replacing the podium deck slab waterproofing and surface finishes as well as replacing the conventional roofing system with a vegetated green roof.
