The BMO Centre Expansion (BMOx) and renovation was awarded through a highly competitive process to the Prime Consultant consortium of Stantec, Populous and S2 Architecture.

Located on Calgary Stampede grounds, BMOx is a key anchor for Calgary’s new Culture & Entertainment District.RJC’s work on the project extends a long running relationship with the Calgary Stampede.

This expansion will increase the current total floor space to nearly one million square feet, more than doubling the rentable space.

When the expansion is complete in 2024, BMOx will be the largest convention facility in Western Canada.

The structural scope is a collaboration between RJC and Magnusson Klemencic Associates (MKA).The three storey building will be over 120 feet tall with a stacked program of Exhibition Halls at ground level, meeting rooms and amenity spaces at Level 2 with the Ball Room level above. The long span steel structure is designed to address both the load capacity and the significant dynamic vibration issues generated by a building of this nature.

A curved canopy spanning 170 feet forms one of the exterior architectural features, reaching out from roof level and touching down in the new community plaza.
