The award-winning Clareview Community Recreation Centre design incorporated the renovated Clareview Twin Arena.

The twin arena is approximately 87,000 sq. ft., with the new aquatic and fitness component adding 213,000 sq. ft. Included within the 213,000 sq. ft. are an 18,000 sq. ft. Edmonton Public Library, and the 34,500 sq. ft. Cardinal Collins High School.Outdoor amenities include natural and artificial turf soccer fields, baseball diamonds, a skateboard park, playground, and walking trails. This project is LEED® Silver certified (2016).

The predominant materials of the structure are glass and steel for the exterior, with the addition of concrete for the interior.

Envelope materials consisted of a metal clad pressure equalized rainscreen system that included exterior insulation and a sheet metal AVB.

The geometry of the building was quite structurally challenging. The sloped and bent roof planes created complicated ridges and valleys, requiring the design team to think creatively, and provide practical and feasible solutions while minimizing the impact upon the schedule and budget.Another design challenge was the location of the quiet library next to the noisier and humid aquatics centre. The team brainstormed and researched best practices for this particular scenario, and were able to specify the right materials to address the sound and humidity challenge.

RJC also conducted in-situ air and water leakage testing of the building envelope assemblies, and a thermographic survey of the completed building.
