The Delbrook Community Recreation Centre is a community hub for health and fitness, recreation, arts and culture for the people of North Vancouver.

The 98,000 sq. ft., three-storey facility, includes a 25m, six-lane pool, a leisure pool, whirlpool/hot-tub, sauna and steam rooms. The Centre also boasts fitness areas including a full-sized gymnasium, weight room, fitness studio and squash courts, along with large multipurpose rooms, an arts & craft studio, a pottery studio, preschool, rental meeting spaces and offices.

The structural framing is concrete, steel and heavy glulam timber.

Some of the key design features include the south facing, double height, steel framed gymnasium and aquatic space that maximizes the view of the surrounding landscape.

The striking central two-storey glulam framed “spine” acts as the main circulation area for the building. The steel framing on the North side of the building utilizes a “comslab” composite floor system to provide an efficient, cost effective, structural framing that maximizes the column spacing.

To give an appearance the building is seamlessly nestled into the landscape, the East side of the facility incorporates a cantilevered triple height concrete wall combined with a lock block wall and geogrid system to reduce the stress transmitted to the building from the elevated terrain adjacent.
