Medicine Hat College Health Wellness and Athletics Expansion

This addition and renovation bring a fresh new look to the College's campus and provides a high-quality experience to students, faculty, and visitors.

This expansion involved a single storey plus basement renovation and addition to the College's Health Wing.

Clerestorey glazing adds significant natural light to the new entrance and atrium, providing users a closer connection to the land and nature.

The focal point of the expansion is the Welcoming Centre, constructed from exposed glulam and architectural steel, supporting a circular ring beam and central skylight.

These elements come together to create a focal space that celebrates the region's Indigenous heritage.Demolition and tie-ins required close coordination with the multiple eras of existing additions and renovations.

Special attention was given to the main floor slab which required unique consideration as settlement and dewatering concerns resulted in multiple structural systems needing to blend together seamlessly over transitions from the existing structure to the expanded area.
