RJC’s Shane Homes YMCA named world’s largest YMCA!

On opening day, January 15, 2018, RJC Engineers’ Shane Homes YMCA at Rocky Ridge, located in northwest Calgary was named the largest YMCA in the world.  

The 284,000 sq. ft. facility which is now operated by YMCA Calgary is anticipated to address the tremendous need for recreational amenities in this area of the city. The space includes a 3,000 sq. ft. open-concept Calgary Public Library, ice rinks, aquatic pools, gymnasiums, a fitness centre, an elevated running track, a theatre and a studio space.

RJC’s structural engineering team were able to flex their creative muscle throughout the project, including the creation of North America’s largest single wood roof, fitting seamlessly within a distinctly curved footprint.
