Why This Role?

As a member of the Structural team, the Design Engineer will be responsible for the structural analysis and structural design of components of buildings including high-rise and residential towers, parking facilities and recreations facilities. The role requires a goal oriented individual who is able to work independently with little supervision, and has the ability to focus and complete multiple tasks within specified time limits. Experience with concrete and steel is fundamental; experience with mass timber, masonry and/or concrete tilt-up construction is an additional asset.

Key Responsibilities

Primary duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepare detailed structural design of buildings including residential, commercial, institutional, and heritage projects.  
  • Assist with development of preliminary structural design concepts
  • Work with the project team from conceptual and preliminary stages of design through to completion
  • Assist with design checks for other engineers’ work (portions of projects)
  • Ensure quality compliance for your portions of projects by maintaining design/checking notes

 

Professional Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in civil engineering program from accredited university, completed with structural design and analysis electives.
  • Registered or eligible for registration with APEGS as a P.Eng.
  • 5+ years of experience in a structural engineering firm.
  • Knowledge of structural design in midrise wood frame, mass timber connections, concrete transfer slabs, low-rise structural steel commercial retail.
  • Ability to conceptualize design with an understanding of constructability.
  • Strong attention to detail and produce error-free, high quality output.
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills.
  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge with structural software SAP, SAFE or ETABS is preferred
