Sustainability Consultant

RJCers know Wendy Macdonald as the “Queen of Green.” Her passion for protecting our environment is inspiring. With more than two decades of professional development, Wendy credits her dedication to sustainability as the driving force behind her career. She initially believed that “technology got us into this mess, technology can get us out,” leading her to study Mechanical Engineering at the University of Victoria to address environmental issues. Through co-op placements with BC Hydro, the Alberta oil patch, a German university, and a consulting firm, she saw that sustainable building strategies already exist; the real challenge is our willingness to use them. This realization shifted her focus to human behaviour, prompting her to study psychology and social work while gaining experience in crisis support and street outreach. She later returned to engineering in a role aligned with her HVAC background, allowing time to explore counselling and start a healing-focused business. As a LEED Consultant, Wendy found her strength in translating complex environmental ideas into clear language, helping teams define and achieve sustainability goals, bringing her journey full circle through technology, people, and purpose.ork.

Some people say follow your dreams. Some people say follow your talents. In my mind, in order to follow any of those things, you need to know who you are to begin with. You need to know what makes you a superhero.
