With an increase in pedestrian traffic around the adjacent Westbrook LRT station, the replacement of the nearly 50 year old existing pedestrian bridge was necessary to improve accessibility within the area and correct major deficiencies with the existing crossing.

As prime consultant for this project, RJC led the design of a safer, more accessible and attractive structure to redirect pedestrians crossing Bow Trail.

The replacement structure was designed with a clear span and increased vertical clearance over Bow Trail to improve road safety, while new approach ramps at shallow gradients improved user access to the crossing.

Designed within the greater context of the Westbrook Village Area Redevelopment Plan, Westbrook Pedestrian Overpass enhances pedestrian and cyclist access between the community of Spruce Cliff, adjacent neighborhoods to the north, the Westbrook Mall site and the Westbrook LRT station.

The design maximized efficiencies, minimized impact to the public and engaged the adjacent communities through visioning sessions and regular project updates.
