The design philosophy for Fort McKay Fire Hall was founded on the functional requirements of the fire station and rooted in the design imagery of the local Métis and First Nations communities of Fort McKay.

A prominent steel framed feature was designed to represent a teepee structure which serves as a large gathering and training space.

With a construction cost of $15M, the 12,600 sq. ft. structure replaces the existing facility that had reached the end of its lifecycle.

Fort McKay Fire Hall is a one-storey fire hall with four non-drive thru apparatus bays, an office space with indoor training area and other support facilities, site parking, and an exterior training area.
