This plant is one of the many components of the Capital Regional District’s Wastewater Treatment Project..

It serves the core area municipalities of Victoria, Esquimalt, Saanich, Oak Bay, View Royal, Langford and Colwood. The work was completed with HDR|CEI Architecture Associates Inc., one of the many collaborative firms of Harbour Resource Partners (HRP), the design-build contractor for the project.

RJC focused on the building envelope design for the Operations and Maintenance Building, which not only has a functional purpose, but acts as a screen for the plant.

The building aesthetics helps blend with the existing environment, an important consideration due to its location on the shore and visibility to marine traffic.

Aluminum, architectural boardform, steel and precast concrete panels, and metal and masonry cladding were all incorporated into the design.Through skillful analysis and experience, RJC provided supplemental review and input concerning the performance of the building enclosure, particularly the thermal performance of the fenestration assemblies and some of the opaque assemblies.

Designed to LEED® V4 Gold standard, the project incorporates a green roof to increase onsite habitat and for stormwater management purposes, and also a sea wall system.
