RJC Engineers has won the 2015 Alberta Steel Edge Award from the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction, held April 16, 2015 in Edmonton.

The award winning project, Columbia Icefield Skywalk, was honoured in the Steel Edge category as a project that best exemplifies "excellence in the application of steel design, fabrication, detailing or finishing…(and) demonstrates tremendous ingenuity in addressing unique design, resource or application challenges."

The challenge faced in achieving Brewster Canada's desired "visceral and gob-smacked" visitor experience was to frame the glass walkway with a minimum of structural members below that might give a sense of security. Meanwhile we wanted visitors to feel the full impact of being suspended in air over the valley floor. Our team achieved this with an innovative self-anchored eccentric cable suspension system.

Weathering steel was selected for the Skywalk for several reasons beyond its durability: the bulk of the structure could be substantially fabricated off-site, limited maintenance is required, and it naturally blends with the surrounding geology.
