GNW Pavilion wins 2020 Canadian Consulting Engineering Award of Excellence
- Details
RJC is thrilled to announce winning a 2020 Canadian Consulting Engineering Award of Excellence for our structural design of the GNW Pavilion. The Canadian Consulting Engineering Awards are given to projects that demonstrate a high quality of engineering, imagination and innovation, and are among the industry's highest honours.
The pavilion is a 60 ft. clear span wood dome, designed by Perkins&Will. The hybrid timber-steel structure resembles a lotus-shaped flower and provides the students of Emily Carr University of Art and Design a gathering place to inspire creativity and evoke imagination.
Throughout the entire project, RJC worked closely with Spearhead as part of an integrated design team. Facilitated by digital modelling, we developed a unique yet simple structure to support this elegant shape.
The complex design and geometry of the structure impressed the jury, who noted the innovative use of digital modelling, precision cutting and fabrication technology to support the architectural vision.
