RJC’s work for the repair and protection of a 1950s-era Wastewater Treatment Plant’s Digester structure in western Canada has received an Award of Excellence in the Water Structures category at the 2021 International Concrete Repair Institute Project Awards Program.

ICRI conducts an awards program each year to honour and recognize outstanding concrete repair projects. Entries are received from around the world, and the winning projects are honoured at the annual ICRI Awards Banquet.

RJC was tasked with engineering the leakage investigation and the interior coating program, both successfully completed. This was a large and unique project. Prior to commencing the interior coating program, several months of leakage investigation were undertaken by RJC, in order to analyze and identify the most effective repair and remediation strategy.

For the investigation, RJC performed finite element modelling of the reinforced concrete tank, and thermal modelling of the brick façade and portions of tank structure.

The 2020 Digester Interior Repair and Coating Program was the facility’s first large-scale digester tank coating project, and RJC anticipates that this program has ushered in a new era of exciting coating projects for our wastewater and water treatment infrastructure rehabilitation team.
