The American Concrete Institute (ACI), Alberta Chapter, Awards of Excellence in Concrete were held Friday, May 31 at the Calgary Golf and Country Club. The event recognized exceptional design and construction efforts in Alberta's concrete industry. Innovation, creativity and excellence in the use of concrete and concrete products was highlighted in the categories of: Buildings, Bridges, Civil, Restoration and Advanced Concrete Construction.

RJC Engineers (RJC) was a proud recipient of the Award of Excellence – Restoration, for the Brighton Block – Shoring Structure in Edmonton. The three-storey, mixed-use historical building re-development will include an additional three-storeys and a completely renovated interior. The project, which is targeting LEED® Silver certification, involves complete removal of the existing floors to accommodate for construction, cast-in-place concrete floors, flat plate design to allow for clearance and temporary steel and concrete shoring to stabilize the masonry walls of which have heritage designation.
